Graduate study in particle and medical physics
You are invited to join our research-intensive Physics Department for graduate studies. We are engaged in world-class research in two complementary areas: Particle Physics and Medical Physics.
Particle Physics
- Theoretical: Carleton University hosts one of the largest phenomenology groups in Canada.
- Experimental: Our comprehensive research program offers unique opportunities in both data analysis as well as instrumentation R&D at world-class facilities such as SNOLAB and CERN.
- We offer an MSc program, an MSc program combining particle physics and data science, and a PhD program.
Medical Physics
- Our research program specializes in the physics of medical imaging, the physics of radiation therapy, and radiobiology, and graduate student thesis work usually will be in these areas.
- We offer an MSc program, an MSc program combining medical physics and data science, and a PhD program.
- For more information about graduate studies in medical physics, please visit the Ottawa Medical Physics Institute website.
- Our PhD program is accredited by CAMPEP (Commission on the Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs).
Carleton University also offers degrees in Biomedical Engineering. The MASc and PhD degrees can be earned through the Physics Department. Exceptional applicants who do not hold an undergraduate degree in Honours Physics or in Engineering Physics will be considered on a case by case basis. Applicants do not need an engineering degree. Please note that the MEng degree in Biomedical Engineering is not available via the Physics Department.
Admission Requirements
We ensure that all full-time Physics graduate students receive financial support from a combination of internal and external sources.
