Congratulations to Carleton University undergraduate Engineering Physics student Dean Antonakos, who received three first-place awards at the 5th Annual Canadian Undergraduate Medical Physics Conference, held on August 21, 2026.
Dean was awarded 1st Place for Best Abstract, 1st Place for Best Presentation in the Imaging session, and the People’s Choice Award in the Imaging session.
Dean’s summer research project was conducted as part of a collaborative research team led by Prof. Sangeeta Murugkar in the Department of Physics. The team included Prof. Sreeraman Rajan, Dr. Ebrahim Ali and Dr. Andrej Vukovic from the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, as well as Prof. Arash Ahmadi and Dr. Zohreh Naghibi from the Department of Electronics at Carleton University.
Dean’s talk was titled "Deep learning segmentation of fluorescence-guided brain tumour surgery images.”
