Carleton University’s Manuella Vincter, professor in the Department of Physics, has been elected as a Fellow to the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) in recognition of the high level of excellence demonstrated during her career.
“It is my pleasure to congratulate Prof. Vincter on being selected as a Royal Society of Canada Fellow,” said Rafik Goubran, vice-president (Research and International). “She has demonstrated excellence throughout her career and engaged in research that directly contributed to important scientific discoveries. Carleton is fortunate to have such a strong researcher.”
The fellowship of the RSC comprises more than 2,000 Canadian scholars artists and scientists, peer-elected as the best in their field. These are distinguished men and women from all branches of learning who have made remarkable contributions in the arts, the humanities and the sciences, as well as in Canadian public life.
“The success of my field of research requires an intensely collaborative community of dedicated physicists,” said Vincter. “Because I have access to this pool of outstanding colleagues, I have always felt able to go beyond my comfort zone of knowledge and experience. I am grateful to them for their support. I am delighted that my contributions have been recognized and am honoured to have been elected as a Fellow of Royal Society of Canada.”
Vincter has made precision measurements of the electroweak force, the structure of the neutron and proton, and most recently the properties of the W and Z bosons, the carriers of the electroweak force.
She played a leading role in the scientific development of the ATLAS collaboration, which in 2012 discovered the Higgs boson.
