About the position:
The Department of Physics invites applications from qualified candidates for a Tenure-track appointment in Experimental Particle Astrophysics beginning July 1, 2017. We are seeking a candidate at the rank of Assistant Professor, but exceptional senior candidates will be considered.
We invite applications from outstanding scientists who have demonstrated research creativity and have the ability to attract excellent co-workers and students. We seek a candidate with research expertise in experimental particle astrophysics who can work closely with the current members of our SNOLAB experimental particle astrophysics group. The Carleton group is developing an internationally recognized centre of expertise in the development and exploitation of cryogenic noble liquid detectors for dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a world-class externally-funded research program as part of the Canadian Particle Astrophysics Research Centre (CPARC, http://www.cparc.ca) recently established by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund, supervise students, and be committed to excellence in teaching.
The Carleton University Physics Department (http://physics.carleton.ca) has a strong particle physics research program and includes significant roles and leadership of the DEAP-3600 dark matter search experiment at SNOLAB and the EXO experiment searching for neutrinoless double beta decay, the ATLAS collaboration at the LHC, and detector development for SNOLAB, ATLAS and the International Linear Collider experiments. Carleton has a strong theory group with interests in particle physics phenomenology, including electroweak and Beyond the Standard Model physics and particle astrophysics, with strong and mutually beneficial interaction between the theory and experimental groups. The Department also has an active medical physics research group with comprehensive links to Ottawa’s medical physics community.
Qualifications:
Applicants for this position must possess a Ph.D. and have established an excellent track record in experimental particle astrophysics. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and possess a strong commitment to research, as reflected in their publication record. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop an externally-funded, high quality research program; will be committed to effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level; and will contribute effectively to the academic life of the Department.
