Abstract:

Opportunities for LHC Physics over the Next Decade and Beyond

After the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), hundreds of analyses have been performed to search for signs of physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.  In this talk, I will present three novel lines of research that will extend the physics sensitivity and broaden the discovery potential of the LHC over the next decade.  First, I will present a new machine learning-based analysis technique, which allows us to probe the multivariate LHC data for subtle hints of new physics and improves the sensitivity of LHC legacy measurements.  Second, I will discuss how far detectors around the LHC can extend the discovery potential for long-lived particles, focusing on the recently approved FASER experiment.  Finally, I will show how FASER can be extended and utilized to detect LHC neutrinos for the first time, opening a new window to a neutrino physics program at the LHC.
