Abstract:

The LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS have both observed signals consistent with a Standard Model Higgs boson with mass around 125 GeV. If these Higgs signals are confirmed, the next order of business will be to characterize the couplings of the new Higgs-like particle to other Standard Model particles. This will allow us to test whether the new particle really is the long-sought Higgs boson responsible for the masses of Standard Model particles.  In this talk I'll describe the strategies for extracting Higgs couplings from LHC measurements and try to give some insight into the patterns of Higgs couplings that arise in extensions of the Standard Model Higgs sector.
