Science Café: Our Dark (Matter) Universe
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 30, 6:30-8PM, The Ottawa Public Library, Sunnyside Branch

Join us for an exciting Science Café event, "Our Dark (Matter) Universe," where Seyda Ipek, Assistant Professor of Physics at Carleton University, will unravel the mysteries of dark matter. Dark matter, an invisible substance that makes up a quarter of the universe's energy budget, influences the movement of galaxies and the behavior of photons from the universe's early moments. Yet, its origins and properties remain elusive. In this engaging talk, Professor Ipek will present current theories about dark matter and explore how scientists are searching for answers, from the Sudbury mines to distant galaxies. Her research focuses on the particle nature of dark matter, matter-antimatter asymmetry, and the origin of neutrino masses. Don't miss this journey through 13.7 billion years of cosmic history!
