Title: Global fits of Dirac Dark Matter Effective Field Theories

In this talk, I’ll present results from a global fit of Dirac dark matter (DM) effective field theories (EFT) using the GAMBIT global fitting framework. We include operators up to dimension-7 that describe the interactions between Dirac DM and Standard Model quarks, gluons or the photon. We also account for the renormalisation group evolution of all operator coefficients and perform automated matching to non-relativistic EFT relevant for DM scattering. Our total likelihood consist of contributions from Planck, direct and indirect detection experiments, and the LHC (in particular, the recent ATLAS mono-jet search based on the full run 2 dataset). All operator coefficients are simultaneously varied along with the DM mass, the scale of new physics and 8 nuisance parameters (e.g., the local DM halo, nuclear form factors and the top quark mass). For DM masses below 100 GeV, we find that it is impossible to simultaneously satisfy all constraints unless the Dirac DM makes up a sub-dominant component of the total DM abundance, and the new physics scale is so low that the EFT breaks down for the calculation of LHC constraints. Above 1 TeV, our results are influenced by various excesses seen in the LHC data, and the best-fit regions depend on the exact prescription used to address the requirement of EFT validity. Finally, we find a large viable region of parameter space where WIMPs can still account for the observed DM abundance while being consistent with all the observed data.
