About the Observatory

Located on top of Carleton's Herzberg building, the Kessler Observatory is named after the long time faculty member Dr. Dan Kessler who was instrumental in the establishment of the observatory in the 1980's.

In 2011, the observatory was modernized and it now houses a 14 inch Schmidt Cassegrain telescope and a small refractor telescope. It is primarily used for instructional purposes in support of the Physics Department's two planetary and stellar astronomy courses.
