Backup Procedure

Unix backups are done nightly; full backups weekly and incrementals daily.  A selection of full backups are kept indefinitely. If you require a file to be recovered from a unix backup, please contact the system administrator and include the most recent date the file existed.

The nightly backup is performed on all files that meets the following qualifications:

  1. The file is on disk at the time of backup and exists in the /home main directory or sub-directory of your unix account.  Please note /data areas are not backed up.
  2. The file is un-opened. If you are running an application, writing to a file or editing a file at the time of backup, then the files involved cannot be backed up.   Users are encouraged to completely log off at the end of the day to ensure that all files can be backed up.
